Need help with IBS? From abdominal discomfort, constipation and diarrhoea, to excessive wind, indigestion and bloating, the symptoms of IBS can vary greatly and are estimated to affect up to 10 million people in the UK alone.

Our Jan de Vries Bowel Essence is one of our most popular remedies for IBS, especially where symptoms are triggered by emotional stress and distress.

Part of the Jan de Vries Flower Essences range , Bowel Essence provides a combination of flower essences that work rapidly but gently on the emotions, and can be taken alongside other medications.

Flower essences are used primarily to provide support on an emotional level, especially when a physical condition may be caused or exacerbated by emotional factors such as stress and anxiety. This particular combination of flower essences can be used by those who may be feeling sluggish, blocked, unsettled, knotted, churning and generally uncomfortable.

Taken regularly, Bowel Essence can help promote calm, cleanse, settle, ease, comfort and generally relax you.

It combines, essences of Aspen, Mimulus, Orange Hawkweed, Chamomile, Agrimony, Chestnut Bud, Beech, Crab Apple, Self-Heal, Walnut and Willow. Each of these flowers has a different function – for example, Aspen calms unspecified fears and anxieties, while Orange Hawkweed helps to energise a sluggish system. Agrimony is particularly useful as it is used when the body begins to express what the mind cannot – for example the churning stomach or diarrhoea associated with anxiety or stress.

Bowel essence also contains our emergency combination of Star of Bethlehem, Impatiens, Cherry Plum, Clematis and Rock Rose to ease stress, anxiety and trauma.

Take five drops in a little water three times daily to help restore digestive calm and comfort.

Jan de Vries Bowel Essence costs £5.35 for 30ml and is available in-store or online.
