Whether you’ve got full-blown acne or are just prone to a breakout of spots after a night out or a stressful week, I’ve got you covered in today’s article! Find out which products I’m always recommending for acne and spots, including face washes, direct treatments, moisturisers and even concealers.
There are lots of face washes on the market tailored to fighting acne and spots, but many of them are incredibly drying and strip your skin of all its important nutrients and protective oils! So your first step in fighting acne and spots should definitely be to get your hands on a natural, nourishing face wash.
Salcura Antiac Daily Face Wash
This deep-cleansing face wash helps to remove impurities and balance oils without drying or damaging the skin. It’s packed full of really lovely ingredients like sea buckthorn, aloe vera and coconut oil to soothe and nourish the skin. It’s pH balanced too, to protect the delicate pH of your skin!
This face wash is specially formulated for acne-prone skin, so if you struggle with particularly stubborn acne, this is definitely the one for you.
Salcura are seen as experts when it comes to problem skin by all of us here at Jan de Vries, with specially-tailored products for acne, eczema, psoriasis and even thrush. The feedback we get from our customers is just amazing, so we’re always confident about recommending these products.

Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash
If you’re more prone to spots or mild acne then I’d recommend opting for Pacifica’s Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash.
It uses super greens like kale, seaweed and blue seakale to nourish and cleanse the skin, as well as a few other unusual ingredients like coconut water and mangosteen. It’s also free from nasty chemicals like parabens or sulphates, and is totally vegan and cruelty free. That ticks all our boxes!

When an outbreak hits you’ll want a product to treat and reduce your spots as quickly as possible. The problem with conventional spot and acne treatment is that they are generally full of alcohol and harsh chemicals that can sting broken skin and irritate your breakout further. Natural products can be just as effective without the nasty side effects!
Salcura Antiac ACTIV Gel Serum
Another Salcura product! Again, this acne treatment is full of natural acne-fighting ingredients like tea tree, peppermint and zinc, as well as soothing and healing ingredients like aloe vera and sea buckthorn oil. It’s applied directly to individual spots during an outbreak to clear them up quickly. It’s also incredibly effective, and can give visible results within just four hours – that’s probably why our customers love it so much!
It’s free from steroids and cortisone so you can use this frequently throughout the day.
Salcura Antiac ACTIV Liquid Spray
I just couldn’t resist including two of Salcura’s acne treatments because they are just such a good brand when it comes to problem skin! For widespread, severe acne, you may find Salcura’s liquid spray alternative a better option, rather than applying the gel to each individual spot. This is also a great product for harder-to-reach acne, such as on your back.
It’s a similar formula to the gel, with natural acne-fighting ingredients like tea tree, eucalyptus, manuka honey and sea buckthorn. There are still plenty of nourishing, hydrating ingredients in there too, like sweet orange oil, aloe vera and sweet almond oil.

The wrong moisturiser can easily cause a flare-up in acne symptoms, so it’s really important to get yours right! The natural moisturisers you’ll find on Jan de Vries are free from irritating chemicals and full of nourishing natural ingredients that won’t clog up your pores; however, these two are particularly useful for acne-prone skin.
Green People Day Solution Anti Blemish Cream
This light moisturiser is hydrating and nourishing without feeling thick or heavy. It has added prebiotics to feed your natural skin flora, friendly bacteria which can keep acne-causing bacteria at bay. Willow Bark helps to reduce inflammation, while refreshing pineapple helps to clear pores for a clearer complexion.
This is a really great moisturiser from a fantastic, organic skincare brand that’s always popular here at Jan de Vries.

Dr Hauschka Clarifying Day Oil
I know, you might be recoiling from this one already – doesn’t oily skin cause acne?! Well, yes and no. Excess oil production is usually just your skin’s response to harsh soaps and face washes – these usually strip oil and cause dryness, causing your skin to panic and overproduce oil to protect itself. Avoiding harsh face washes is a good choice, but so is providing your skin with nourishing oils so it doesn’t have to.
Confused? Read our article on why your face care routine should involve more oil.
Dr Hauschka’s Clarifying Day Oil is one of our favourite face oils! It’s packed full of nourishing oils like peanut oil, sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil and wheat germ oil, which send signals to your skin to stop producing oil. This makes it perfect for oily, acne-prone and even dry skin – a great all-rounder!
Price: £25.50 30ml
If you’re having trouble clearing up your acne or spot outbreak, you might be looking for a short term solution to cover them up as your new products get to work. A concealer will definitely come in handy, especially if you’ve got a special event coming up! The problem with typical concealers is that they’re packed full of nasty chemicals that irritate your inflamed skin and clog up pores, making spots and acne worse in the long run. Instead, opt for a natural concealer that’s much kinder on delicate skin.
INIKA Organic Natural Perfection Concealer
I love INIKA’s makeup range, and their Natural Perfection Concealer is the perfect choice for covering blemishes and spots. It’s full of natural, soothing ingredients like aloe vera, avocado oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil to help the healing process while it covers up spots. There’s even some green tea extract in there for an added boost in antioxidants!
It comes in three shades: very light, light and medium.
Green People Blemish Concealer
If you’re familiar with Green People, you might be surprised to see a concealer from them! However, most of their products focus on natural, nourishing skincare, so this concealer is almost more of a skincare product than a makeup product.
As well as covering spots, it is also packed full of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients like rosehip oil, coconut oil, aloe vera, green tea and vitamin E to help heal the spot faster and reduce redness.
