The newest recommendations are that everyone, regardless of age and gender, should be taking a vitamin D supplement during the winter months. However, with British summer there is no guarantee of seeing much sun, so at Jan de Vries, we tend to recommend taking a lower potency vitamin D supplement throughout the summer months as well.
A perfect supplement for this is Solgar’s 600IU vitamin D3 vegetable capsules. Though this is a lower potency, it still exceeds the recommended 400IU a day so there’s no need to worry about losing out on that all important vitamin. The vegetable capsule means that these are also suitable for vegetarians!
So why do we need vitamin D? Well, this important vitamin helps the bones to absorb calcium, keeping them strong and preventing a loss of density. It is also an important vitamin for the immune system, helping you to fight off colds more quickly.
